Frequently Asked Questions.
How long do media conversions take?
All conversions happen in real time — for example, a 3-hour tape will take 3 hours to convert. Once that’s complete, I’ll transfer the digital file to your USB or hard drive, which usually takes about an hour.
If you’re on a tight deadline, feel free to give me a call — I’m happy to discuss urgent requests where possible.
What if my tape is damaged / too old to convert?
You’ll only be charged for tapes that are successfully converted. If a tape can't be digitised, you won’t be billed.
What if my tape is TV recordings that I don’t want?
I won’t transfer TV recordings unless specifically requested. You won’t be charged for unwanted content.
What type of tapes do you transfer?
I convert the following formats:
VHS
VHS-C
Mini-DV
Video8, Hi8 & Digital 8
Super 8 film & Standard 8mm Film (silent only)
DVDs & CDs

What resolution do you convert to?
All tapes (including Mini-DV, VHS, and Video8) are converted to Standard Definition (SD).
Super 8 film reels are scanned to High Definition (HD).
What size USB do I need to put my tapes onto?
As a guide, 1 hour of footage equals around 1GB of digital video.
A 3-hour tape = 3GB
Three 3-hour tapes = 9GB
Make sure your USB or hard drive has enough free space for the total hours you’re converting.
Alternatively, I can supply you with an appropriate sized USB.
